Saturday 9 February 2008 Fowey Utd. 5-0 Grampound(Duchy League Division 2) Grampound looked as good as their high-flying hopes for 25 minutes but then 3 terrible mistakes allowed the hosts to take an unassailable lead. Weeks managed to get the ball in the net for Grampound but was given offside when clearly running from an onside position which the home linesman chose to disregard. That besides, Grampound were second best for the last minutes of the second half and were out of the game because of awful individual mistakes. Grampound started the second half more brightlly with a changed formation and were unlucky to concede a fourth when some soft tackles were missed on the right touchlne. Grampound responded by creating three good chances. The first was when Harris shot powerfully when put through, but hit the near post area and the keeper managed to put the ball safe. Glyn Ford had the other two, the first when he felt his effort was enough but was touched round the post by the keeper, his second was hit past the keeper only to come off the inside of the post into the keeper's arms. Fowey could have had a few more goals but had to settle for a header in the closing minutes when an unmarked midfield player was allowed a completely free header at the far post. All present would agree that this was an extremely poor performance from Grampound players more interested in verbally justifying their selection than actually putting in a performance. Manager Glyn Leaney has much to do. |
