Saturday 19 August 2006 Altarnun Res. 3-2 Grampound Res.(Duchy league Division 3)
On ten minutes, against the run of play, Altarnun were awarded a corner which was whipped in with pace. Chris Prall let his marker go, who then headed unchallenged into the Grampound net. Gramound were unfazed by this and continued to play well considered, passing football creating at least eight gilt edged chances in the first half. On forty minutes Altarnun were again awarded a corner. This time the ball was cleared but straight to an Altarnun midfielder, whose wind assisted drive, flew into the left corner. This didn’t dampen Grampound’s spirit and they narrowly missed, with Bawden failing to connect with Topham’s free-kick, missing what would certainly have been a goal by a toe's width. Grampound started the second half with even more resolve throwing players forward, with Topham’s central drive being tipped over by the opposition keeper. The resulting corner was cleared by the Altarnun defence who quickly turned defence into attack and although there was a definite hand-ball on the edge of the area that was missed by the ref, this was by far their best move of the game with the a cross from the right hand side being thunderously volleyed in by the Altarnun forward. Andrew James replaced Dean Dunn and Grampound were instantly more combatative in midfield and Joe Dunn then replaced Alister Berry, giving more pace down the right flank. Grampound were then rewarded for their hard work with Bawden firing in from close range following a defensive mix up from Topham’s long throw-in. With the bit between their teeth, Grampound continued to press forward and Ryan Orchard fired in from close range into the roof of the net.
