St Breward 3-2 Grampound
(Duchy league Division 3)
Back to Fixtures
An unfamiliar looking Grampound team arrived at a windy and, as usual, hostile St Breward
looking for a first league win. Playing up the slope and against a strong wind, Grampound defended well, giving the hosts few opportunities but, in all honesty, creating very little either as possession was conceded very easily. In spite of denying St Breward any real opportunities, Grampound managed to gift two goals by a mxture of naivety and poor defending. Smart play down the left allowed Grampound to pull a goal back before the break as Glyn Ford squared across the area for Shane Weeks to sidefoot the ball into an empty net.
The second half saw Grampound in familiar catch-up mode and St Breward were pushed back into their own area. John Brooker, one of Grampound's successes on the day, dominated his area of midfield and gave a good platform but, as usual, Grampound spurned a number of excellent chances. St Breward extended their lead with a freak goal from a rare attack when a clearance hit an home player and just crossed the line. Grampound continued to look the better side and from a corner, Bawden's header was handballed on the line but, inexplicably, the defender escaped with just a yellow card. Keith Cotterill comfortably beat the keeper from the resulting spot kick to set up a tense final period for the home team. The home keeper made a couple of great saves in the remaining minutes from Moseley and Dunn and a very relieved home team were pleased to hear the final whistle. Grampound will be disappointed to concede three goals against a very mediocre St Breward and now look to next week's match to notch their first points.
