Grampound 1-1 St Breward

Another tight encounter was expected as Grampound entertained promotion rivals St Breward in what proved to be a frustrating game for the hosts. The first half saw the home team make most of the play and it took some desperate St Breward defending to keep the scoreline blank. The movement of Grampound's strikers Weeks and Turton made life difficult for the visitors, but the final pass was rarely good enough to create a clear cut chance until Turton found his way to the goal line and pulled the ball back. The ball was laid off for Moseley who blasted over when a goal looked inevitable. Minutes later Moseley had an almost identical chance and his thumping shot looked goalbound until the keeper managed to touch it onto the bar and over. Grampound thought they had finally taken the lead when Maker's inswinging free kick from the right was dropped over his head by the goalkeeper, only to be headed out from under the bar by a defender. St Breward offered little threat and Tony Ford in the Grampound goal had little to do, only being called into real action for the first time on the stroke of half-time. He parried a shot and the ball fell to team mate Matt Fletcher, whose clearance hit a St Breward forward and rebounded into the net to give the away side an unlikely lead.

That piece of bad luck spurred Grampound on in the second half and it was one way traffic for much of the 45 minutes with the St Breward goal being peppered but leading a charmed life. Maker's headed effort was denied by another great save, the ball bouncing back off the bar, and Moseley had a cracking shot headed off the line. Grampound felt they had a good shout for a penalty, but the referee waved play on and it looked like it was going to be one of those afternoons until Moseley popped up for a well-deserved goal. St Breward, in spite of having some tall defenders, looked vulnerable from corners and midway through the half Moseley found space to meet one perfectly at the back post to score with a trademark header. Grampound continued to press and should have scored on several occasions in the last twenty minutes, but St Breward held on to deny Grampound all the points, which the home team may regret when the promotion places are decided at the end of the season.
