Grampound 4-1 North Hill

(Duchy League Division 3)
Back to Fixtures

A lot of hard work on the morning of the match enabled Grampound to host their first home game since vandalism to their pitch in October and they took full advantage to beat a struggling North Hill team comprehensively. Shane Weeks cleverly released Glyn Ford on fifteen minutes and he hit the net with just the advancing keeper to beat. Grampound fully deserved the early lead but North Hill, looking second best until then, started to play the ball around well and equalised ten minutes later when a corner was not cleared and the ball was driven home from the edge of the penalty area. North Hill played above themselves until half time and, although they did not create a real chance, managed to frustrate Grampound's fluent football and held their own until the break.

The second half belonged totally to Grampound. Centre backs Webb and Fletcher completely snuffed out any North Hill threat and Grampound's midfield asserted themselves with some neat passing. Grampound re-took the lead ten minutes into the half when Ryan Maker's through ball found Weeks, who beat his marker and the goalkeeper to the ball to run the ball into the unguarded goal. Ten minutes later, another Maker pass put Weeks through and he beat the keeper with a fine chip. With Grampound now looking like scoring with every attack, Maker dominated the game and played a number of perceptive passes and he was well supported by his fellow midfielders. Grampound's fourth and final goal was the pick of the day as Weeks collected the ball thirty yards out and cut in towards goal. With Ford's run pulling defenders away Weeks hit a stunning shot into the corner beyond the keeper's dive to the left to give him a second half hat trick. The last fifteen minutes were all Grampound and another couple of goals could have made the scoreline even more emphatic but a disheartened North Hill managed to keep the scoreline respectable. The three points gained put Grampound in an excellent position in the promotion race after six league wins on the run.
