Saturday 2 December 2006 Calstock 4-1 Grampound(Duchy League Cup Round 2) Calstock were deserving winners of this full-blooded cup tie played on a heavy pitch, but the final scoreline was a little flattering to them. Grampound got off to the worst possible start when in the first minute a cross from the left found Gary Underwood completely unmarked just five yards out and his easy header gave the hosts the lead. Grampound worked their way back into the game after their customary slow start and in spite of the conditions began to play some neat football. The Calstock defence had to work hard to keep the visitors at bay, but Weeks had a couple of good efforts that went close and Grampound's confidence was growing. The equaliser, the best goal of the match, came from a deep cross from the right by Nathan Cooper. Defender James Webb had found his way to the far post and he rose above the defenders to head the ball back across the goal for Glyn Ford to nod in from close range. Most watching the game would have backed Grampound from that point, with Dai Moseley missing a couple of good chances, but back came Calstock and they laid seige to the Grampound goal for the period before the break with a series of corners and free kicks which were survived due to some brave defending and a little good fortune. The second half was evenly contested, but it was Calstock who forced the breaks at important times. Ford in the Grampound goal was unable to gather the ball in the mud and it was struck home by Underwood for his second from close range. Calstock's third, ten minutes from time, was a poor goal from a defensive point of view when a free kick was floated into the six yard box and no defender challenged, giving Ian Cook a free header from a few yards out. Grampound, with the game slipping away, threw players forward and forced the Calstock keeper into some desperate saves. They held on and scored their fourth in slightly fortuitous circumstances. Another free kick into the Grampound area was met by John Brooker but as he headed the ball he was nudged and the ball dropped to a Calstock player who was also nudged. The referee saw the second offence and awarded a penalty, which was despatched well by Graham Galway although Tony Ford managed to get a hand to it. Calstock are now through to the last eight of the Duchy League Cup.
