(Duchy League Div 3)
Back to Fixtures

Grampound players wore black armbands to recognise the recent tragic death of Grampound girl Sarah Chinn.

Grampound dominated the opening ten minutes, with Shane Weeks looking dangerous and Nathan Cooper hitting the the bar with the keeper a spectator. Chances went begging on numerous occasions for Grampound but there looked only one possible winner with Queens offering little threat. After Turton was fouled 25 yards out , Ryan Maker's free-kick bent and deceived the Queens' keeper but hit the bar and the ball was cleared to safety. On 35 minutes, a five -man move allowed Turton to play a through ball to Glyn Ford, who ran on and stroked the ball into the net to give Grampound the lead.

Grampound dominated most of the second half, but had to survive a scare when the ball was given away with all the midfield committed forwards and Queens managed to create a good opportunity but their striker hesitated on the edge of the area and Greg Dunn, playing his best game for weeks, got back to make the saving tackle. The ball broke kindly to another Queens player and Harry Cooke had to make his only real save of the match to push the shot round the post. Grampound extended the lead when incisive play gave Greg Dunn the ball out wide on the left and his low cross into the space behind the Queens defence was met by Turton and he calmly hit the ball into the net from eight yards. Soon after, some neat passing gave Turton a shooting opportunity and he drilled the ball low past the diving keeper's right hand for his second. Grampound were now rampant with some of the Queens players looking as if they did not mind being over-run and the hard-working Weeks was unlucky on a few occasions to not have scored. Another goal did arrive ten minutes from the end when a cross came in from the right and Glyn Ford span and volleyed the ball home low. This was a good result for Grampound against a very moderate Queens Rangers team, but 3 clean sheets a nd 3 wins in a row mean that the momentum is with Grampound as they prepare for their last game, the crunch fixture at Saltash in two weeks time.
