Saturday 14 April 2007 Wadebridge Town 2-1 Grampound(Duchy League Div 3) The opening minutes saw Grampound passing and moving well on a pitch bordering on the dangerous, with the home team looking sluggish. However, the Wadebridge opening goal changed all that. There was no challenge at a corner as 3 Wadebridge players attacked the ball, the ball dropped to Kevin Cornford, again there was little challenge, and he gratefully popped the ball into the net. A number of Grampound heads dropped and from then on some seemed to be just going through the motions. The home side extended their lead when a few fortunate bobbles and a bit of a mix up saw the ball roll agonisingly past Tony Ford. Grampound offered little threat on the Wadebridge goal with too many players seemingly out of sorts, but to be fair Ford was under no pressure either. The game seemed to drift along until there were just a few minutes left. Matt Fletcher rose to meet a corner from the right but the defender's challenge stopped his attempt. Fletcher forced his way to the loose ball and hammered a low shot on the turn into the net to give Grampound some hope. The last 5 minutes saw Grampound play their best football of the match as they pressed for the equaliser, with Prall going closest with a header, but Wadebridge managed to hold on and claim all the points. The combination of injuries, unavailability, difficult pitches and, most importantly, poor form seem to be combining to make Grampound's run-in a disappointing one, and in the 4 fixtures remaining points need to be won to give a finishing position that properly reflects the team's ability.
