Saturday 17 September 2005 North Hill 0-4 Grampound(Duchy league Div. 3) Grampound started in determined fashion after their disappointing result the previous week. Nathan Cooper was installed in midfield in order to give added shape and his presence seemed to give all those around him confidence. With the North Hill defence playing very square it seemed only a matter of time before this was exploited but as in the past good opportunities seemed to drift away. In the 20th minute, though, Glyn Ford picked up a ball wide on the left, cut inside beating two defenders and hit the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the area to give Grampound a deserved lead. With Glyn Ford continuing to work the channels well and good probing from the supporting players around him Grampound looked well in charge but could not extend the lead. Early in the second half Luke Kelland came off the bench for his first appearance of the season for Grampound and made an immediate impact. He chased down a through ball to the goal-line and pulled it back for Glyn Ford to tuck the ball away to put Grampound into a 2-0 lead. Remembering the previous week, the whole team steeled itself to not give away the advantage, and this sense of determination was evident in every player. The win was confirmed when Lee Allen's energy won a ball wide on the left and his neat cross was smacked hard and low into the bottom corner by Kelland for a trademark goal. With Grampound properly in charge , more goals seemed on the cards as a now rather disorganised North Hill team struggled to keep the scoreline respectable. A couple of strange offside decisions helped them, but with 15 minutes to go quick thinking by Kelland set Glyn Ford free. He raced away, rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home neatly for his hat-trick. More pressure nearly brought more goals, the best effort being a low James Webb shot from the edge of the area brilliantly saved by the home keeper. This was a very satisfying afternoon for Grampound, four goals being a good reward, but also a sound defensive display. There will be tougher challenges, however, than this disappointing North Hill team.
