Saturday 10 September 2005 Grampound 3-4 St Dominick(Duchy league Div. 3) Grampound began in confident fashion, passing and supporting well and looking dangerous in every attack. The midweek coaching session on supporting play looked to be paying dividends but it was defensive errors that gave Glyn Ford the opportunity to score two goals by the 25th minute to put the home side comfortably in charge. Five minutes before the break St Dominick were given a lifeline when they pulled a goal back from a set-piece, with Grampound looking a little fragile to the high ball at the back. This was a very disappointing goal as it gave a physical St Dominick outfit heart for the second half and they duly scored shortly after the break, another set-piece giving Grampound problems in their own area. Now on level terms, another superb ball into the area from a free-kick gave the opportunity for a St Dominick defender to head them into a slightly fortunate lead. Shortly after, the lead was extended when some slack defensive play gave a St Dominick forward the chance to lob comfortably over Harris in the Grampound goal. Kevin Toms was brought on up front and Grampound went 3-4-3 in an attempt to rescue the game. The pace of Toms caused some turmoil in the visitors' back four and he won a penalty, duly dispatched by Keith Cotterill. It remains a mystery why the defender was not sent off for handling the ball on the line. Grampound, now 3-4 down, continued to push forward but despite a few close calls St Dominick managed to hold out for the three points. |
