(Cornwall Junior Cup Round 1)
Back to Fixtures

A sparkling performance complete with spectacular team goals overwhelmed Division 1 side St Teath. In the opening exchanges Grampound were quicker to the ball and passed with confidence, helped by a second minute goal when goalkeeper Harris took a free kick in the Grampound half. He spotted Kelland in space and hit a long ball into the St Teath area. Kelland's lunge met the ball on the full to guide the ball past a surprised St Teath keeper. As the confidence surged through the team, every attack looked likely to bring a goal, the St Teath back four having a torrid time. A second goal arrived when Glyn Ford outpaced his marker down the right and slotted the ball low past the keeper. Although two goals down St Teath gradually began to impose themselves on the match although the high quality of their midfield players was not replicated elsewhere. An attempted clearance by James Webb from a long cross into the penalty area was sliced into his own goal and shortly after a mix-up between Cooper and Harris allowed St Teath to equalise. This period of play saw Grampound sleeping a little, but they put themselves back on track with a terrific goal. Maker laid the ball off to Cotterill. He chipped the ball to Kelland, who headed into the path of Moseley. Dai Moseley then volleyed into the far top corner from the edge of the area. Soon after, Glyn Ford grabbed his second when he collected a clearance, turned and ran at his marker. The defender was left in his wake as he then stroked the ball past the keeper to restore Grampound's two goal lead.

Grampound's passing ensured control of the second half. A number of good chances were created, but it was excellent team play ending with Kelland's shot on the turn from 18 yards which extended the lead. Twenty minutes from the end Grampound scored another great team goal. Crisp, incisive passing and movement put Cotterill clear and he confidently chipped over the advancing keeper to stun a very deflated St Teath team.
