Saturday 1 October 2005 Grampound 1-1 St Breward(Duchy League Div 3) Grampound had to be satisfied with just a point after dominating for long periods in a game that should have been won comfortably. St Breward began brightly, some neat passing and good movement causing problems for Grampound, who in contrast looked sluggish and out of sorts. After 10 minutes, St Breward took advantage of Grampound not pressuring the ball carrier, who was able to pick his pass to a striker, giving him the time to pick his spot. He finished neatly into the bottom corner. Gradually, Grampound's passing, movement and tackling started to look a little sharper and St Breward began to be pressed back. The visitors' keeper made excellent saves from Kelland and Ford to maintain their early lead and it looked just a matter of time before Grampound pulled back the goal. The second half was one way traffic as Grampound at last found their passing game and St Breward dropped deeper and deeper. Half chances came and went but Grampound were unable to manufacture a clear opening as the visitors defended stoutly. The equaliser came from a set piece. Maker's free kick from the right was floated to the back post where substitute Dai Moseley timed his run perfectly to head splendidly into the top corner from 10 yards. The remainder of the match saw Grampound striving for the winner. Most of the play was in the St Breward half but Grampound were grateful for a good save from Stuart Harris when a mistake allowed a striker a clear run on goal. For all their dominance, though, Grampound could not find a winning goal and at the end the visitors were very pleased with their point. This must go down as 2 points thrown away, and the team are not currently showing the type of form produced just a few weeks ago. |
