Saturday 6 May 2006 Grampound 0-4 Godolphin(Duchy League Divisional Cup, Semi-Final First Leg) This was a disappointing result where Grampound matched their high-flying opponents everywhere except in front of goal, which has been very much the story of the season. Grampound welcomed back Nathan Cooper and Glyn Ford after long-term injury and an operation respectively and began very brightly, but were a little deflated when a long cross from the left found its way into the top corner and soon after there was no pressure on a cross and Godolphin took a two goal lead after 20 minutes. Although Grampound played some neat football, they failed to threaten the visiting goal too often but when presented with several decent chances the shot was snatched at and missed.Unfortunately, when trying to be too intricate in the wrong place, Grampound also managed to give away a third goal before half-time. The second half saw Grampound pressing hard and although three up, Godolphin were rattled and hanging on for long periods. They worked hard to keep their goal intact and just before the end compounded Grampound's woes when more home over-elaboration gave them another chance which was tucked away neatly. Grampound's task in the second leg now looks impossible and they will be playing for pride only. |
