Grampound 1-1 St Mawgan

(Duchy League Div 3)
Back to Fixtures

Grampound started well, pushing back St Mawgan and forcing some desperate tackles and clearances. The home side failed to capitalise on this opening advantage and gradually St Mawgan began to gain confidence as they realised Grrampound lacked a little potency. Although Grampound had the greater proportion of possession, they looked a little lacklustre, but the game was lit up when Shane Weeks managed to get on the end of a long ball and his first-time shot from 30 yards cannoned back off the post. Glyn Ford, alert as ever, was following up and he had the easiest of tasks to slot the rebound home. At this point it looked as if Grampound would go on to win by a handsome margin, but to their credit St Mawgan battled back. The second half was possibly the worst display given by a Grampound team for some time. Passes, headers and tackles were missed and St Mawgan had the run of midfield, pouring into vacant spaces left by a increasingly out of touch Grampound team. It looked as if Grampound might hold on, but 5 minutes from time a mishit ball found a St Mawgan forward in space and his shot from 6 yards pulled them level to earn them a well-deserved point.
