Saturday 7 January 2006 Grampound 3-3 St Dominick(Duchy League Div 3) Grampound welcomed back Greg Dunn to the ranks and he went straight in on the left side of midfield to replace the injured Toms. The opening 20 minutes of this match were very one-sided, with the home team giving Grampound a torrid time everywhere on the pitch and it was a true reflection of the teams when they raced into a two goal lead. Both goals, though, were slightly fortunate. The first happened when a home forward controlled the ball with his hand before unleashing a great shot into the far corner, and the second when Tony Ford allowed a simple shot to squirm past him into the net. A cricket score looked possible at this stage, but Grampound gradually began to match St Dominick's physical approach and their advanced midfield players and started to pass the ball more quickly. Neat interpassing eventually gave the ball to John Brooker 30 yards out and he had several options to put someone clear. His pass cleverly freed Glyn Ford, whose chip from 18 yards cleared the goalkeeper and gave him his first goal since October. Now back in the game, Grampound began to dominate and spent most of the second half in the home team's half with Tony Ford a spectator for much of the time. A deserved equaliser came when Maker's driven free kick from the left was met by John Brooker who headed firmly past the goalkeeper from 8 yards. The home team were now being pushed back and were just hanging on with Greg Dunn and Shane Weeks really examining the home defence down the flanks. Dunn's passing, tackling and crossing increasingly became a real feature of the game. Just when Grampound looked the more likely winners, the inevitable happened and St Dominick took the lead again when a free kick into the penalty area was not dealt with well. Grampound brought fresh legs on in the last twenty minutes and continued to press. Several crosses from Dunn and Weeks almost brought a goal, but the final equaliser was scored with only seconds remaining. Good passing gave the ball to Dunn on the left touchline who crossed perfectly for Dai Moseley. He outjumped the home defence to head the ball into the net to earn Grampound a well-deserved point. |
