Saturday 11 February 2006 Roche 1-0 Grampound(Duchy League Div 3) Grampound began in confident mood but a mis-hit shot from the Roche lone striker after 8 minutes found a fellow forward, in an arguably offside position, and the visitors were then playing catch-up. Tony Ford only had one further problem to deal with in the entire game, which he confidently saved, and for the rest of the match was a cold spectator. Several acceptable chances came and went in the first half, but in the second period Roche rarely had the ball and even less frequently threatened, with Webb, Cooper and Leaney hardly being extended. With 21 players camped around Roche's penalty area for 45 minues it is surprising that Grampound did not score, but a combination of desperate tackles and headers together with some unpleasant strong-arm tactics around their area condoned by weak refereeing, allowed Roche o hang on for 3 very undeserved points. Grampound should have won comfortably and the shot-shy approach needs to be remedied. New signings are imminent and much needed in the goal-scoring department. |
