Saturday 4 February 2006 Grampound 3-0 Roche(Duchy League Div 3) Grampound began with a re-organised midfield and their complete dominance in this area throughout the match determined the outcome of the game. The opening goal was a beauty. Glyn Ford passed up to Brunt on the edge of the area. He attracted a defender and then squared the ball into space for Kevin Toms to crack the ball into the top corner from just inside the penalty area. Tony Ford in the Grampound goal was having very little to do, such was Grampound's control of the game, and at no time did the back three look under any real pressure. Although Grampound dominated possession, few real chances were created and the home supporters, from bitter experience, knew that one goal was never going to be a comfortable lead. The second half continued in similar vein but the desired two goal cushion was achieved ten minutes in. A free kick wide on the right was driven in by Weeks and Nathan Cooper met the cross perfectly to head powerfully, low into the net before the Roche keeper could react. Grampound continued to call the tune against what can only be described as a very poor Roche outfit, but only scored the third in stoppage time when substitute Dai Moseley was on hand to hit the ball in from close range after the Roche keeper made an error. After this comfortable three points, and with players to come back from unavailability and suspension to strengthen the squad further, Grampound should soon start to climb into the top half of the division where they belong. |
