Saturday 8 April 2006 Camelford 0-0 Grampound(Duchy League Div 3) Grampound always had the edge in this match, but a combination of goal shyness, good saves and the worst playing surface anyone can remember kept the game goal-less. Ford looked lively in the first half, threatening on several occasions with the usually sound Camelford defence looking unsure. At the other end, the Grampound back three looked comfortable and assured and the only scare came when a very long range free kick had to be parried by keeper Ford. The second half was all Grampound, but passing over the ruts was almost impossible. Nevertheless Grampound created several good openings but hesitation, wanting that extra touch - perhaps understandable given the state of the pitch - meant that the final shot was not produced. The goal keeper made good saves from from Ford and Brunt and in the final minutes John Brooker's header at a corner looked to be the winner, only for a defender to get his body in the way on the line and to scramble the ball away. The blank scoresheet was Grampound's ninth in the league, which says a lot about the season. |
